GHA Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is GHA a Christian/faith-based organization?

GHA is a faith-based organization and will require all board members, commissioners, and coaches to sign our Statement of Faith, which can be found on our website here. Although athletes and their parents / guardians are not required to sign in agreement of the Statement of Faith, we want them to know that it is an integral aspect of Greenville Homeschool Athletics, and as participants/representatives of GHA, their behavior and social media should not be in conflict with the GHA Statement of Faith.

Not all homeschool families are Christians. Why are you Christian/faith based?

After receiving feedback from many local homeschool families, it was consistently indicated that the majority of local homeschool families desire a program where their Christian faith can be openly practiced. There are multiple local public and charter schools who welcome homeschooler participation as a result of HB548 (“The Tebow Bill”). Families who do not wish to participate in a faith-based program are encouraged to pursue athletic participation through one of those avenues.

What age students can participate?

The primary focus of GHA is to provide competitive sports teams for students in grades 6 through 12. However, we may also host clinics, camps, and potentially even participate in some competitive leagues for younger aged students so that we can be developing strong players to participate on GHA teams in the future. When filling out the Google interest form, please mention ALL students who would like information on GHA athletic opportunities, regardless of age.

Do I have to live in Greenville to participate in GHA?

GHA participants are not required to live within a specific geographic boundary. Most activities will be hosted and scheduled as close as possible to Greenville, TX. Any family who wishes to participate in GHA is welcome to do so as long as they are willing to make the necessary commute.

How much will it cost?

It is the goal of GHA to provide a strong, competitive athletic program in each sport that we offer. Each sport will have varying expenses, which will be split among the participating athletes. Each sport will also be required to contribute toward organizational administrative expenses. It is our goal to keep all expenses as low as possible, while not sacrificing the safety or quality of our programs. The Commissioner of each sport is responsible for balancing their own budget, which must be reported to the GHA Treasurer for review and approval by the Board of Directors. The set fee for each sport will be communicated to participating families at the start of each season. GHA is a non profit 501(c)3 organization. Coaches, Commissioners, and members of the Board of Directors are all volunteers.

Will you have tryouts? Will everyone who signs up get to play?

Some GHA teams may require tryouts prior to an athlete being allowed to participate. Our primary goal is to put together strong, competitive teams in each sport. While it is our goal to also provide developmental opportunities to any athlete who wishes to play a sport, regardless of skill level, we have limited resources that may prevent our ability to accept all athletes into the program. Tryouts for each sport will be scheduled and hosted at the discretion of the commissioner for that sport, pending approval from the Board of Directors.

How much travel is involved?

All practices will be held in a location as close as possible to Greenville, TX. The majority of GHA teams will compete in local area leagues that have 1 or 2 games on weeknights each week during their season. "Away" games may require a drive to the host team's facility. Most teams will also participate in 1-2 weekend tournaments within a 2 hour drive of Greenville. Playoffs will be hosted at the discretion of the league organizers and could potentially require travel. Participation in travel tournaments/games will be at the discretion of the Commissioner for each sport, with input from coaches and team members' parents, and pending approval from the Board of Directors.

I would like to help coach. Whom should I contact about getting involved?

There is an application, review, and approval process for all GHA coaches, commissioners, and members of the Board of Directors. If you would like to get involved in a GHA leadership role, please email us at greenvillearchers@gmail.com. To help out in an administrative or other volunteer  role for your child's team, please speak directly with the commissioner and/or head coach of their team/sport.

I am upset about something. Whom should I contact?

As a Christian based organization, GHA has adopted the conflict resolution principles outlined in Matthew 18:15-20 of the Holy Bible.  If an athlete or parent disagrees with the words or actions of a Coach or other GHA representative, we would encourage you to speak directly to that individual in an attempt to resolve the conflict. If a resolution is not found, the matter should be revisited in the presence of the 2 original parties along with 1-3 additional persons for accountability and mediation. If a matter is still unresolved, the parties involved may bring the matter before the Board of Directors for mediation.

I really want to play _____ sport. Why don’t you offer that? Can we start a team?

GHA is here to serve our local community. We would love to provide competitive athletic opportunities in a variety of areas as player interest, coach availability, and resources allow. Please email us at greenvillearchers@gmail.com if you are interested in spearheading a sport that we do not currently offer.
